The Labels Catwalk Show

If you follow me on twitter, you will know that one of the things i want to start doing on this blog, is creating a forum/opportunity where upcoming/emerging fashion & arts brands/individuals can showcase their talent.

The LABELS are a group of 20-25 year old recent graduates in the fashion, textile and fashion marketing world who showcased their 2012 collections pre- London Fashion Week in 2011.

The designer’s range from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and economic situations from the regions of  East and North London. Many of which have started creating their own fashion brands and are becoming independent retailers even in this difficult climate.

The event was organised by two emerging designers Sylvia Fumudoh and Schenell Stephens who collaborated together with 5 recent graduates to put on the Labels catwalk show. The LABELS is now a three part collective now including Marsha Bigby together they wish to provide emerging British design talent the best platform to showcase their collections in the aim of gaining industry exposure to kick start their careers and brands within the competitive fashion industry. The LABELS fashion showcase will now be an annual event.

After holding a successful event in 2011, The LABELS team are back and will be holding this year's event on September 1st at 4th floor studios  in East London, showcasing the following emerging designers

Chelsea Bravo (Graduate fashion week designer-menswear)

Casually Comfortable

I wore this relatively understated look to work the other day, i was in one of those all black everything moods. However after a little thought, and for fear of inflicting my somewhat dark mood on others, i decided to add a touch of floral to brighten my day.

You may have noticed that i practically live in my Kurt Gieger jelly bow slippers, that's because they are the most comfortable things ever and so free. I don't like to be restricted at work by my footwear, so during the summer i take advantage of the fact that i can wear these kind of slippers to work.

One may have also noticed that one seems to always wear one's hair in an up do, this is not totally by choice. Here is how the story goes, last summer, i decided to experiment with my hair out of totally boredom, i dyed it *insert tears*. This was the second worst hair decision of my life, everything was going swimmingly well, i loved the colour, i was steaming and treating it, however suddenly two months ago my hair started showing signs of breaking *insert further tears*

Long story short, my hair is in recovery mode, my luscious thick locks are now somewhat thin. I am currently nursing it back to health with organic & reconstruction products, therefore until it gets back to it's former glory, i just can't bear to see my thin ponytail out *sniff*

PS: My boyfriend absolutely hates the 'bun' look but tough because for now, it is here to stay unless i have weave in.

TresChic Spotlight : Vintage Fiend

Today i decided to step away from the spotlight and feature an emerging brand that i feel my readers would love. It's a vintage clothing retailer called Vintage Fiend (VF) based in America.

Vintage Fiend stock vintage pieces with a modern twist at affordable prices. As a relatively new and emerging venture, i thought it would be a good idea to interview Imani, the lady behind the brand and get her to communicate her vision and where she sees VF's fit in the market.

Imani (VF Creator)

Vintage Fiend was founded May 2012. VINTAGE FIEND IS YOUR ONLINE SHOPPING DESTINATION TO FIND THE MOST UNIQUE, EDGY AND FASHION FORWARD VINTAGE PIECES AT A STEAL! HERE AT VINTAGE FIEND OUR GOAL IS TO MIX "YESTERDAYS CLASSICS WITH TODAYS EDGE!

If we are really honest, they just don’t make clothes like they used to anymore. The quality and originality that is incorportated in our Vintage Items, is very hard to find in your everyday stores and if you do find these items, chances are they are high priced. So here at Vintage Fiend our goal is to bring you quality and affordability.
Some of the best looks originated in other time periods and we are constantly playing at the theme of mixing old and new, giving Vintage a fresh new spin while still maintaining a timeless appeal. We take great pride in handpicking every item that we sell, when we choose pieces we look for aesthetic appeal, is this hot? Is it original? How many ways can you rock this item?  But again we also look for quality, top notch fabrics, its condition, making sure that the items don’t look worn, but the colors are still vibrant and the textures are in order.
Our target audience is very simple it’s for the fashion lover. Our items can be worn by teens or by grown women. When we style our clothing we try to reach a broad audience. You see some items like the Kimono Jacket that is paired with a sheer bodycon dress, now obviously a grown woman with two kids might not find that appropriate but in the description of the item we give you style suggestions. That mom might find it more appropriately paired with some skinnies. Whatever your style there is a piece in our collection for you. I have been a fashion stylist for years working with photographers such as Johan Santos and Mark Dorsey of Imagus Images.  I am also co-owner of the clothing line Dirty Monroe with my best friend Shavona Powell. So I have had years of experience in the hustle and bustle of the fashion world. And I truly breathe it, it transcends into everything that I do and I take it very seriously.
We do ship internationally; everyone no matter where they are should enjoy our Vintage!!  We add new pieces to our collection generally bi-weekly. So there is always something new to choose from.  We do charge for shipping, shipping rates vary based on where you live. We do run specials from time to time, so do follow us on twitter @VintageFiend1 & check out our website HERE to keep updated.
For a limited period Vintage Fiend are offering TresChicGlobal readers 15% off purchases, use PROMO CODE Treschic15.
Check out a snapshot their current collection below. So what do my Treschic readers think? especially my American friends, will you be quenching your thirst for vintage at VF :)

Weekend Fun

I attended the Nigerian Kings of comedy show at the Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday, I'm not usually one for concerts or comedy shows, mainly because i am not a big fan of crowds in confined areas. But i decided to come out of my comfort zone and try something different and i wasn't disappointed.

Albeit the African time start, i.e 6pm scheduled start turned into 8:30ish actual start time, the show was funny and well organised. Two stand out comedians for me were Okey Bakassi and Akpororo, these dudes are 'hilaricle', especially Akpororo. Akpororo is new on the Nigerian comedy circuit, but based on his performance i can definitely see a long lasting and successful career ahead, the Warri accent, dance moves and his cracking jokes were definitely on point.

Decided to go for a non-fussy look, simple maxi dress, sandals and an updo. I am definitely in love with this dress from Zara, it adds a very classy edge to the maxi trend and the fit is almost perfect. I tell you, Zara can do no wrong in my eyes right now, what do you guys think?

On Sunday i headed off to church and to spend the day in Hyde park in this girly number. I was late for church so didn't get the chance to unpack my bag but i later swapped it for the tan Zara shopper basket for my trip to the park.
